Ive been in the bike building business for over 15 years.
Im 39 years old and one thing is for sure -- you learn a heck of a lot
about people when running a business in this industry. Much more than
one would expect. Four main things that keep ringing true about people
to me are, 1. We humans are definitely creatures of habit, 2. We are
forgetful, 3. Some people will believe or settle for anything they hear,
no matter how obviously untrue the story or facts are, and 4. You dont know what you dont know. More times than I care to recount I have found myself shaking my head in disbelief at what I had heard or seen -- especially having know the first hand facts to be quite different. Instead of gratifying the
subject further by commenting or rebutting, I would simply take a deep
breath, sigh, and walk away wondering, is this what its all
come to"? You can pick your friends and you can pick your
nose, but you cant pick your friends nose. Okay, I dont know who first said this, or where I first heard it, but I try to live my life by this simple golden rule for the most part. It basically says to me - "live and let live". Or -- "let people make their own mistakes and live their own lives. Cool for the most part, huh? Yeah, until you realize that its at someone elses expense. and you realize that someone is you or someone you know. and especially when you realize THAT someone else is somebody who actually worked his or her butt off to build a company, product, future, and/or a name just to hear some slandering fool attempt to defame or belittle the person in questions years of blood, sweat, tears, hard work & sacrifice by someones unfounded and thoughtless remarks.
What I do know is that one day I got this idea. I figure theres a whole bunch of stuff I've learned over the years and I got this pretty cool thing called a "website" that can be accessed by anyone on the planet via this other pretty cool thing called "the internet". Rather than leaving folks with those untrue or inacurate stories swimming round in their heads, I thought it would be kind of cool, and much more productive if I just shared my first hand experience and perspective on things here on my website and call it -- Heres My Thing. Itll be "my take" on the way I see or have experienced things on a first hand basis. Straight up --genuine -- first hand information. What a concept, huh? Just keep in mind however, that I full well know up front that I am far form perfect and that I DO NOT KNOW EVERYTHING! I do know a whole bunch of stuff though, and thats what Id like to share with you. So, here's "Here's My Thing". I hope you enjoy it and I hope you will email me your comments or questions if you should have any. Thanks for reading -- Chris Kelly
